What is CBCT?
CBCT, or Cone Beam Computed Tomography, is a 3D X-ray imaging technique used in dentistry and medicine to create detailed scans of teeth, jaws, nasal passages, and other bony structures, offering clearer views than traditional 2D X-rays for complex diagnoses like implant planning, oral surgery, and TMJ issues, while often using lower radiation doses than conventional CT scans.
How it Works?
- A cone-shaped X-ray beam rotates around the patient's head.
- It captures multiple images from different angles in one rotation.
- Software reconstructs these images to create detailed 3D models of the oral and maxillofacial region.
Advantages over Traditional CT
- Lower Radiation Dose: Generally exposes patients to less radiation.
- Higher Detail for Bone: Excellent for visualizing hard tissues.
- Compact Size: More suitable for dental offices.
- Faster: Decreased scan times.
